Nestled in a grove of East Texas pine trees in a lovely residential area of Jasper, Texas, is the First Presbyterian Church. Viewing the sanctuary, the educational wing and Coleman Hall from 740 West Verna Street, the hymn, “The Little Brown Church in the Wildwood” comes to mind.
The congregation is made up of friendly, congenial, intelligent, forward thinking folks who welcome everyone to it’s fellowship. The local Session of Ordained Elders is elected annually by the congregation to govern the local church which is a member of the nationwide denomination, Presbyterian Church of the USA. The denomination coordinates worldwide activities with ecumenical religious organizations and agencies in more than sixty countries.
The congregation in Jasper provides a number of activities for it’s members and the community. Current activities, always under review and revitalization, include Sunday Worship, Sunday School of the Church, Presbyterian Woman, Music and Fellowship Programs.
The church also sponsors and supports community wide events such as the Patriotic Sing-along in July, as well as events promoted through the Jasper Ministerial Alliance. Coleman Hall serves as a voting site and a meeting place for various community organizations during the month.
Who We Are
We envision the church as a key part of the Lord’s presence in Jasper and we bring hope, justice and peace. We gather as a People of God to learn, worship and praise Jesus Christ. We scatter to this community to share The Good News. We serve people in need and awaken the disciple in everyone.
We worship and learn in the Reformed and PCUSA traditions for ALL comers. We steward and share our buildings. We find needs of our members and others and help meet them.
